Positive Comms +Plus for the Week of 23 November 2015

Upper Highway to Lake Nakuru Kenya

Interesting or inspiring articles (perhaps a bit of both) …

Each week, we share links to a few interesting or inspiring articles we’ve come across during the previous week. They’re meant to stir your thinking about marketing, communication and graphic design as well as conscious capitalism and the socially conscious movement.

We’re enjoying the articles focused on Africa that we find at The Conversation.com. This article by  is no exception. It presents a case for capitalism on the African continent that will contribute to the economic and social health of the people living there. “Africapitalism” is made up of values developed nations are now realizing are important; like parity, progress, peace and harmony (just to name a few).

Cheetah are one of our most favourite animals, so this article about a scientist tweeting about cheetahs caught our attention. It’s a funny account of how technology is changing the world of science in some of the remotest regions of the world. With cell towers never too far away (and more being installed every day), this is an example of how digital communication is enabling scientists to share what they’re discovering with their neighbours next door or around the world.

Conscious capitalism is focused on a higher purpose (as well as a conscious culture, leadership and management; and stakeholder integration). This TED Talk by Simon Sinek addresses corporate purpose with some great and simple messages, including the idea that purpose is “why you get out of bed in the morning, and why should I [ the customer / client ] care?”
